PayScale interviews Rand Fishkin
Friday, February 9th, 2007September 12, 2006 was the first blog post of MySuperProposal.com. On this website, a certain JP has been blogging about his super wedding proposal to his girlfriend that he was saving up enough money to be able to have his own Super Bowl TV ad commercial which will be his marriage proposal to his girlfriend. His identity was hidden, but the SEO community knew about it as I remember Chris on the podcast of The Pulse mentioned it in one of the shows. Some post of MySuperProposal also had some large amount of Diggs. But I guess he was not able to get a spot on the Super Bowl and opted to get a commercial spot on a favorite TV program of his now fiancée.
And these videos have been posted on a bunch of SEO blogs, mainly because JP was actually SEOMoz’ Rand Fishkin. I am not ever posting his video since is it almost in every major SEO blog. So I will just point you into the direction of other SEO blogs that have it the Rank Fishkin Proposal Video.
But anyway, I want to show something else about Rand. He is pretty popular in the SEO world and top SEO people are known to make some good amount of money. Here is an interview of Rand Fishkin by Payscale sharing his views on the SEO industry.
Super Bowl is a trademark of NFL

Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture) Stops Free Keyword Bidding Price Viewer Tool
Thursday, February 8th, 2007I believe it was just last week when I used the Overture Keyword Bidding Tool, and today, it’s gone. It has alwasy been useful for SEM professionals to use this tool to check the current bids on a keyword to get a good estimate on how much a certain ad campaign may cost and gets you prepare to come up with a targetted budget. These used to be on:
http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/
or
http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/USm/search/tools/bidtool/
But today, both URLs will give you this message:
Gone
The requested resource
/d/search/tools/bidtool/
is no longer available on this server and there is no forwarding address. Please remove all references to this resource.
Apache/1.3.34 Server at astatine Port 8070
The HTTP status code on this is an Error 410. Unlike an Error 404 that tells you a page is missing, an Error 410 is really telling you the page was deliberately removed and no longer exist. Has the keyword bidding tool moved to a new URL? If yes, why not do a 301 instead? If not, I guess they are only making this available to current people with accounts on Yahoo Search Marketing and will just have the tool available to people with actual active campaigns.
How to see all backlinks Google sees
Wednesday, February 7th, 2007More SEOs have been more dependent on Yahoo and MSN in reporting backlinks simply because Google won’t display them. Not that Google does not see them, Google is just not displaying them. But Google has just made a new update to the webmaster tools. Google Webmaster Tools now includes a very comprehensive inbound and outbound links report. It now shows all links that Google sees on you site. Google has announced the new feature on the Google blog yesterday:
- http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/02/who-links-to-your-site.html
As quoted from Vannessa Fox by Danny Sullivan on one of his post on Search Engine Land.
“Webmasters have been wanting more comprehensive link data from us for a long time,” said Vanessa Fox, product manager for Google Webmaster Central. “We created Webmaster Central to communicate better with webmasters and we take their feedback very seriously. We have been looking at ways to provide this data and are ecstatic to make it available.”
I gave it a spin I am impressed being able to see the details of where all links go to and see also what permalinks to my sites are linked to by other people. Login to you webmaster tools account and check it out yourself.
Update: A co-worker of mine gave it a shot too right after I showed him this post. Some how Yahoo still seemed to find more links than the link report within Google Webmaster Tools. Does this mean then that Google has not seen all links yet? Google has been crawling slower than Yahoo? Or Google is still not displaying all inbound links like the link: command?
