Ituloy AngSulong with Zero Results in the SERPs but it looks like BBD has a head start

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

If you search for Ituloy AngSulong in the search engines. Google and Yahoo are displaying no results. But MSN, now called Live, shows something different. MSN is known to not give as much great results as Google when it comes to relevancy. Relevancy is the main factor that made Google popular when they have just launched several years ago. Although MSN is know to crawl your sites and get them index a lot faster than other search engines. And current MSN is showing results already for Isulong AngSulong just a day after this has been announced as the keywords at the SEO Philippines Beer-con.

Ituloy AngSulong SERPs on MSN/Live

Looks like Whin Clores’ BBD is going for the attack early on. If he is the first in the SERPs on MSN/Live, he might just be the first as well on Google and Yahoo. What do you think?

Ms. Dewey – Creative uses of Search Engine APIs

Ms Dewey Interactive Search Model Screenshot

Just many other web-based softwares, some have API‘s. And with an API, you get to use the power to the program by using the API with minimal programming. Although you may still need programming to understand an API in most cases to implement them, but it will save you time than making everything from scratch. You can create other applications to augment the capabilities of a program with an API or simply just change the appearance and usability.

Google, currently known as the world’s most robust search engine right now, offers an API. And more and more people are coming up with creative ideas in using it. Yahoo and MSN also offer their own APIs. And one creative idea using the MSN API is Ms. Dewey. Ms. Dewey is some animated person on a Macromedia Flash website. It intends to be an interactive website, although I believe after using this several times, you might be able to memorize everything Ms. Dewey does. Unless they start adding more things she does in the future. As for the AI aspect of it, I see no AI at all. Looks like just a bunch of if…then…else, switch…case and random code to me. AliceBot is smarter than Ms. Dewey. One main attraction to this site is Ms. Dewey is no animated cartoon character and is a large database of pre-recorded videos of a female model, Ms. Dewey.

But I believe, Ms. Dewey was not intended to be a robust AI robot anyway. She is just there to put in more interest to the site. Keep people stay and interact more. Although if they do not add more features that Ms. Dewey does, it may not get return back traffic. But nevertheless, the site is very cool. It has a lot of acting talent, video talent, Macromedia Flash talent, backend programming talent that has been invested into the website.

If you think you will get to memorize everything, my boss asked me to check out the search results for “Drink” and we were surprised to see about 5 different video results.

Ms. Dewey quick traffic increase this October based on Alexa Rankings

And even if Alexa is not a good measure of traffic as they say it is not accurate, it is still a good rough estimate way to measure the sites popularity based on traffic. And look at Ms. Dewey’s Alexa traffic just suddenly peaked up to more than 1 trillion in October. This was just very recently and this is where you can see the power of making a buzz online. An perfect example of interactive media to gain popularity, and by word-of-click, it just spreads so fast. Serves also as the perfect link bait where the monetization ideas can just come in from all directions when you get traffic like this.

Streaming flash video, and high traffic sounds like they must really have some large bandwidth. Well in most cases traffic = money and they should be able to cover up the cost of bandwidth in the future. And I am sure Ms. Dewey has something up her sleeves on how her site will actually make money. Just take a look at the screenshot on top, or simply visit the site, you can already see below the search box, the area intended for a banner ad, it is an 835 x 80 pixel space.

Note: This post originally said that Ms. Dewey is a creative use of the Goggle API. And I was informed by Dennis Agulo, also a member of SEO Philippines, that Ms. Dewey is powered by the MSN (Now called Live) API.
